Motorcycle Trips

My husband and I enjoy putting miles on our Yamaha FJR. It’s a great way for us to decompress from all the hustle and bustle of city life, and we just like going fast! Our trips begin with us planning a route together, which isn’t always easy. I enjoy heading east towards coastal estuaries and beaches, while my husband prefers riding through the canopied and twisty mountain roads of Shenandoah National Park. Luckily for us, living in DC means we have access to many scenic motorcycling routes, so our disputes usually revolve around when we’ll do a trip and not where.

We’ve found our limit to be about 300 miles in a single day, and we make sure to work in rest stops and site-seeing excursions along the way. If you’re interested in following along with our trips, I’ll post about them here, so be sure to subscribe!

April 11, 2026 | Maryland & Delaware Coasts

Distance: Approx. 330 miles round trip

We began our D.C. escape on US-50 before detouring through the quaint Annapolis, MD. After crossing the way-too-tall Chesapeake Bay Bridge, we made our way to Cambridge, MD, where we stopped for breakfast at Black Water Bakery. Pictured below is my favorite breakfast of all time. Need I say anything else? Everything tasted delicious!

We continued along US-50, crossing coastal estuaries into Assateague Island, the land of wild ponies. And there were many to behold!

From Assateague Island, we made our way up the coast through Ocean City, MD, and continued into Delaware before stopping at Coffee and Custard. Their Ube custard sent our taste buds into space! (If you’re not familiar with Ube, it’s a purple yam native to the Philippines and used in many of their desserts. The purple color might look daunting, but the flavor is subtle.)

After puttering through Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach, we made our final stop at the T.S. Smith Orchard Point Market in Sussex County, DE, where we purchased several of their delicious fruit butters and jams. I made sure to spread a layer of butter and apricot jam on my leftover croissant and savor every bite before we hit the road again. Yum!

My favorite shops are the ones that give their bathrooms personalities. Because why not? Pictured below is one of the bathroom walls inside T.S. Smith Orchard Point Market.

Our butts might be sore, but our hearts are content.
